Operator registration and zones — before your first flight

5 August 2026 · Karyna Biezhan

The full guide is written in Polish: Rejestracja operatora i strefy. This is a summary, and it is information rather than legal advice — the rules change; check drony.ulc.gov.pl before flying.

Register as an operator

The operator is whoever owns the aircraft, not whoever holds the controller. Registration with the Polish Civil Aviation Authority applies to aircraft from 250 g, and to any aircraft with a camera whatever its weight.

Put the number on the drone — and in the app

The operator number goes on the shell where it can be read, and into the manufacturer's app if the aircraft carries remote identification. Two separate steps, both required.

Training

A1 and A3 need a free online course and a test — under an hour. A2, which allows flying closer to people, needs a further examination. Carry the certificate with you.

Zones and insurance

Check the zone map before every flight; some zones appear for a few hours only. Third-party insurance is not compulsory for recreational flight in Poland but is inexpensive, and it is compulsory for commercial work.
