LiPo batteries: charging, storage, transport

28 July 2026 · Ihor Osypenko

The full guide is written in Polish: Akumulatory LiPo. The summary below covers the same ground.

Charging

Use the original charger, and only once the cell is at room temperature. A battery brought in from the cold has to warm up first — charging a cold cell costs capacity permanently. Do not leave a charge running overnight.

Storage

The one number worth remembering is 60%. That is where a battery should sit if it is not going to be used for more than a few days; Lithium-polymer cells discharge to it on their own, and topping them up "ready for the weekend" shortens their life.

A swollen cell

Out of service immediately: no charging, no "one more season", no storing it indoors. Take it to an electrical waste point — or hand it to us with your next delivery.

Travel and winter

Lithium batteries fly in cabin baggage only, terminals protected, usually at about 30% charge; the capacity limit is the airline's, so check it. Below 10°C keep the cells in an inside pocket and fit them just before take-off.
